PREPARING EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY LEADERS

“We like to give to the training of many who will go out and bring hope and healing around the world. We know that what Fuller is doing is changing people's lives. We love giving to Fuller because Fuller is making a difference in the world.”

Fuller has played an important role in the personal and professional lives of Cliff and Joyce Penner. They moved to Pasadena, California, for Cliff to pursue a Master of Arts in Theology and a PhD in clinical psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary while Joyce earned a Master of Nursing from UCLA. After graduating, they joined their professional lives, and for four decades they have together served preteens, teens, young adults, adults, couples, parents, families, and other therapists through their private practice. Cliff and Joyce have used what they both learned during their years at Fuller to lead seminars and training workshops throughout the US and Canada and twelve other countries, authored multiple books, and appeared on TV and radio talk shows.

Because of Fuller's significance in their lives and the lives of so many, giving to Fuller has been a part of Cliff and Joyce's lives since they graduated. For many years they discussed ways to make a legacy gift to invest in Fuller's future impact. They decided to include a bequest to Fuller in their will. Friends and family also joined together to raise funds to establish the Clifford and Joyce Penner Fund for the Development of Emotionally Healthy Leaders and to endow the Clifford L. Penner Presidential Chair in honor of their deep commitment to Fuller's mission.

The Clifford and Joyce Penner Fund for the Development of Emotionally Healthy Leaders will address significant needs at Fuller and in the wider Christian community that Cliff and Joyce have observed during their professional careers and which have concerned them profoundly. The fund will enable current students and Christian leaders to benefit from access to psychological professionals and resources. Cliff and Joyce believe such support will help empower them to bring psychologically mature spiritual leadership to the various fields they are called to. The Clifford L. Penner Presidential Chair Endowed Fund will support the Fuller president's national and international reach.
